I gave it two stars because the special affects are pretty good, but the plot is so horrible, so mind numbingly stupid that you really have to wonder… in my case why I was such a dupe to buy it. The daughter wanting to stay with the mother was touching and heartfelt as was the big gorilla hug fest at the end. But wow, a purple Godzilla? I kind of expected him to break out dancing with a spinning disco ball, but there was no such finale. But who knows? Maybe that will show up in the sequel… I can only dread…
This movie certainly delivered all the best kind of entertainment you could ever imagine for a Giant Monster/Kaiju movie. It was definitely worth the wait for the last 3 years. This is the best year to be a MonsterVerse fan, 2 tv shows last year, SKULL ISLAND and Monarch Legacy of Monsters, and the new Toho film in December.
I have to admit, I was worried they’d fumble the performance in this movie but it was amazing in so many ways.
First up the humans, honestly an improvement after Godzilla Vs Kong, in this their story flowed smooth and has great one liners in funny scenes, sometimes the whole theater laughed. There’s small plot holes but it didn’t affect the film or its pace
And now… the Monsters themselves
They didn’t lie, this film was mostly about them and entirely from their perspective, sometimes most time without people on screen, just the 2 Kings of Cinema.
King Kong was done so well in this, he honestly felt like a person in 2 particular scenes. You could truly connect with him more as an actual character and his arc in this movie was very emotionally driven for him. His fight cinematography was amazing. Hasn’t been this good since 2005
Then Godzilla, still as majestic as he is destructive in the Monsterverse. Hate to say but not on screen for most of the first 45 minutes, but does appear in the first 7 minutes doing his Alpha duty of protecting humans and Titans from each other. Not as angry as GvK, back to his old 2014/19 mind. His new Design, oh my god, absolutely beautiful 🤩, can’t wait to see him with this look in future projects
Finally, this had the most giant monsters in any movie made until now, I’d say at least 9 Kaiju all together, especially in the Hollow Earth. Got to see more of it in this movie, totally stunning visual landscapes. Then the villain, Skar King, he was like an evil version of Kong with the mentality of a cruel conqueror. His presence in his first scene was daunting, and terrifying.
All in all, a great monster rampage blockbuster that will guarantee a bright future for the franchise, still can’t believe it’s been 10 years already since it all started in 2014
HERES TO ANOTHER 10 YEARS OF TITANS
I did see this in theaters 🎭 on my birthday 🥳! Okay was this an Oscar conversation? NO! But it should be grained to the fact that when you talk about Kaiju monster fights it becomes clear all it is becomes a popcorn chaotic movie 🍿! And not a need to get invested in human emotions! USUALLY! But in New Empire There is an ending with Human Emotional Heft! Even if it’s somewhat phoned in! Not the best monster-verse movie ever but still worth the Empire that is founded on! 🦖
First, can we please get a movie that doesn't depict the men as a cowering weaklings, and second, yikes, this was flimsy, ridiculous and CGI overloaded.
This movie is utter garbage. Everything is bad. If you really want to see it wait until it's $4.99
Kong and Godzilla Both work together to finish up scar king don’t look like a king to me.
Can’t be played on Sony Bravia Apple TV app, it says this content is currently not able to play on your device, please use apple device. Other movies I’ve purchased from iTunes are payable. Please fix it.
