It captures the silliness needed without going TOO far over the top; if it all.

Saw it in theater when it came in 1999 or so and loved it. Rewatching comedies often disappoints but this held up well even on my iPhone. William Macy’s non-campy deadpan earnestness functions like a keel on the blustery high seas of silliness, to imitate something Ben Stiller’s character might say. Stiller’s Mr Furious sometimes tells instead of shows but his hulk parodies are worth it. The Bowler’s commanding wit and brief lapses into insane half-dialogs with her bowling-ball-encrusted father’s skull refuel the whole thing. I suspect Jeneane Garofalo wrote or improvised her lines because she seems so natural amid the camp. Izzard, Reubens, Rush, Waits — great stuff. Cult followers of real comics this might feel dissed but that’s not my problem.

This is one funny movie! From start to finish! Every character has there moments. Very strong cast. A must for anybody who enjoys a light hearted comedy.

Not the best of the many wannabe-superhero movies out there. I kept rooting for it to get better but it didn't. It's got a lot of good elements. A fun premise, several good characters, and a charming comic-book look and attitude. They just don't come together well enough. It gets off to a hopeful start and then the story just peters away and much time gets frittered. Needed a stronger script and directing. As others have said, it's a likable but ultimately failed mess.

This movie is clever, fun to watch, and even hilarious at times! But there are more than enough dull moments, the story's a mess, and it could've been so much more. Funny and clever and exciting yet long and dull and messy! It's an uneven mixed mess of fun and bleh.

I had a blast making this movie. Thank you all for discovering it. The movie didn't get support from the studio...they just didn't get it. And as you can see from the very few negative reviews it isn't for everyone and was never ment to be. Hence the studios disinterest. It has become a cult classic and I'm dam proud to have made it.

This is one of those films that if you get into it, you get INTO it. I've met many people that this just does not do it for, and I know many who take to this film religiously. I'd say check it out, for ten bucks, can you really go wrong? It's a decent enough flick with a heckuva star-studded cast. You'll love it or "meh" it, but, I'd say it's worth it.

This movie is incredible. It brings its own genre of superheros to the big screen and it does it in a very comic way. The choice of actors is fantastic and the movie is hilarious. Funniest part "No, no, no. Rage really taking over!".

I don't get all the 5-star reviews. Man I wanted to love this movie. I love everyone in it, loved the premise, loved the characters' names. I generally love insane comedies, and love superheros. But man, this movie just wasn't that good. I laughed out loud maybe twice. Smirked a lot. I remember a good bit where Stiller goes angry on a car hood ornament, and the sponsor logos on Kinnear's outfit was smart. But the story ultimately doesn't pay off. It ends in one of those - "huh, I guess this is the 'climax'" kind of scenes that feels muddy and forced and not very satisfying. Kind of the way League of Extraordinary Gentlemen did. Script or Directorial issue. Overall, despite the originality of the premise and the funny character names, the movie is sadly unmemorable.

This is probably my favorite comic book/superhero farce movie of all time. Every role is just as funny as the other, but each in a different way. The best part is the fact that the film is played so seriously, yet the hilarity is what shines through! Anyone who likes comedy, action, suspense, and/or comic books should definitely see this ingenius parody!

Phenomenal cast and funny premise. Unfortunately, predictable story lines and lackluster writing doom otherwise strong acting performances by nearly everyone, especially Rush, Macy, Azaria, Forlani and Waits. Studi was a surprise cast member and carried his part well.

This is my all-time favorite superhero movie!!! The actors are sooo cool and there is always a laugh or two every single second of it. For those who think it's a spoof of other comics... THIS IS NOT A SPOOF!!!!! So these characters aren't really well know out of the movie... Other Dark Horse Comic movies are Hellboy and the Mask, and they're awesome. But Mystery Men is my definite favorite.
