This film is filled with character decisions so flawed and outright stupid it defies imagination. An interesting premise is squandered almost immediately, topped off by insipid dialogue.

The Purge takes it itself seriously because of it's rant of a future world were crime is all over the place. It's just the premise of this film is pointless and it becomes a home invasion thriller horror film like the strangers watch the strangers instead.

This concept is uniquely horrifying. Imagine you live in a nice white upper middle class neighborhood and all the jealousy and hostility of your neighbors can be unleashed on you one night a year. You may be prepared but are you really safe. Suddenly soft-hearted kids can become a liability. Or are they? Watched all 4 films and this one remains the best. Took one star away because the resolution was vague.

By far, the best thing about this movie is the premise of the Purge night, itself. The filmmakers did not really deliver the full-blown mayhem that I expected or the premise truly deserves. That said, the film is very enjoyable as late night thriller.

The Purge, is DEFINITELY a REALLY good film, & noteworthy. but I must admit, this film isn't as pulse pounding as the sequel, here's why. The first film was, presumably, the film that incorporated the exposition for the entire trilogy to build upon.

Very entertaining! Full of goosebumps, thrills, and sadistic fun! It's a film that will leave you clinging on to your armrest, fearing that someone might break in your home. Will you stay behind locked doors, release the beast, or risk your life to save a stranger? It's a horror flick worth watching.

Murder and crime is legal for 12 hours, anybody has the freedom to do whatever they want, so what do the filmmakers decide to do? Show us a boring, generic home invasion thriller with boring character development and an awfully boring pace. Why introduce this kind of interesting concept to us if you're not going to focus on it at all? Not only that, there was hardly any action at all throughout the entire film, and even when it does manage to show us that, it's only within the last half hour, and it's not that great. The problem is that the movie ignores it's own originality to instead focus on concepts that are, well, unoriginal. It's not the worst film I've ever seen to focus on this much unoriginality, but because it comes across as a stated above, a boring home invasion thrillr, it's just not worth viewing.

I thought the movie had a good premise but it was poorly executed (no pun intended). It was mundane, predictible and the plot was poorly developed. I woulnd't waste my money on this movie in any way, shape or form. If you have HBO record it and wath it one night when you can't fall asleep.

This is my first review because I felt compelled to let whoever is reading this know that this is one of the worst movie I have ever watched. There were just some many flaws in within the movie. The idea was great, but very very poorly executed and not well thought out.

There’s an appeal in watching Bad Horror Movies. Stuff that’s campy, cliche, and poorly produced ends up being funny or nostalgic. The Purge isn’t a bad movie. It’s just a really unremarkable one. There are some marginally decent moments. The interesting premise is wasted. The home invasion builds predictably. The chance for an impactful, disturbing, terrifying ending is present but wasted in a very predictable way. It’s easy to be hard on this movie because, given it’s big budget and great premise you can easily see at every turn how this thing could have been so much better.

I feel I have to stick up for this movie. I liked it, and then loved it when I watched it a second time. The mother was my favorite because she is such a strong character, and character is exactly what you get after seeing this movie. Well done :)
